Our Journalist Advisory Board (JAB) exists for a number of reasons, both inspirational and strategic.
They keep us informed about what’s considered the norms of journalistic behavior. They teach us the insidious spin techniques that don’t belong in objective writing.
Spin is an epidemic. The advisory board briefs us every month on new strains of spin, and what counter-measures work best. (No, we’re not going to quarantine the entire press corp.)
Without exception, their mission is to keep us focused on the Code of Ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists. This will help us build, upgrade, and continually refine the software of the SpinSpotter truth engine.
Their last charge is perhaps the most significant: Create the environmental conditions for trust and transparency. We can’t clear away some of the mental pollution in the media if we ourselves are contaminated. Our Journalism Advisory Board will work to keep us squeaky clean.
