We have a respected crew of über-advisors at SpinSpotter. But what we’re most excited about is the hundreds of thousands of spin-spotters out there. People committed to cracking the bullwhip on bias in the press.

Here’s the modus operandi: We provide the rule-book, journalistic ethics, and Doberman technology, and you bring the sharp eyes. Basically, you become part of our Truth Engine. The more skilled you are at identifying spin within our guidelines, the smarter the engine becomes. And the more influence you have over how SpinSpotter evolves. That’s how the anti-spin movement grows.

But you must work within the Rules of Spin as handed down from our Journalism Advisory Board. Otherwise, you’ll suffer the unceremonious fate of a declining trust rating, and that means fewer people will see the fruits of your labors in the future.

You also must agree to our Code of Conduct. By using services and tools provided by SpinSpotter, you are agreeing to comply with the following:

1. Respect Reigns
SpinSpotter provides a place for people to expose and respectfully discuss spin, bias, and inaccuracy in the news. While we encourage users to express their points of view, we will not tolerate personal attacks, abuse, harassment, threats, impersonation, intimidation, or predatory behavior of any kind. Conduct of that nature is subject to moderation, deletion, and/or account cancellation. If you notice behavior that is inappropriate or defamatory, please report it to members@spinspotter.com.

2. Users Set the Tone.
As a user of SpinSpotter's services, you are responsible for any activity that occurs under your screen name. You must comply with all local laws regarding online conduct and acceptable content, which means the following will not be tolerated: copyright infringement, plagiarism, transmitting worms or viruses, submitting or creating "Spam," hacking SpinSpotter, modifying another Web site to falsely imply that it is associated with SpinSpotter, and posting content that is pornographic, sexually explicit, or gratuitously violent. Violation of any of these agreements may result in the termination of your SpinSpotter account.

3. Discretion Belongs to SpinSpotter.
As an online service provider, we are not responsible for the conduct of our users. However, we want SpinSpotter to be a safe place, so we rely on our users to establish and foster a respectful community dynamic. If we notice recurring, counterproductive conduct—even if such conduct is not specifically stated in this Code of Conduct—we reserve the right to modify or terminate our services to anyone, without notice. Additionally, at Spinspotter's sole discretion, this Code of Conduct is subject to change at any time.

We’re optimistic people; we have faith in the ability of individuals to challenge the press on its objectivity. Besides, it beats yelling at your laptop about our over-mediated, under-informed culture.
